(J2) Foreign journalist visiting China for short-term news coverage

Scope of Application

Foreign journalists entering China for short-term interview and reporting (stay no more than 180 days).

Documents to Upload for Online Review

• Passport: Information page and 2 blank pages;

• Photo: Recent, front-facing, color (white background), bareheaded, official ID photo.Click here to view photo requirements;

• Valid stay or residence certificate (for applicants not holding Mexican nationality). Mexican citizens may upload a scanned copy of their ID card or passport information page;

• Scanned copy of previous Chinese visa. Applicants with no prior visa records may upload their passport information page;

• Letter or approval document allowing foreign journalists to conduct short-term interviews in China.

Documents to Bring When Submitting Passport After Review Approval

• Original passport;

• 1 Visa Photo;

• Visa Application Confirmation;

• Valid Chinese visa (if applicable);

• Original Chinese passport (for applicants who previously held Chinese nationality and later acquired foreign nationality, applying for a Chinese visa for the first time).

Notes

• The visa notification letter and the official letter issued by the journalist's media organization are generally issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China;

• It is recommended that applicants contact the press department of the Chinese embassy or consulate first to complete the relevant procedures.

Special Instructions

• Consular officers may, at their discretion, require applicants to provide additional supporting documents or supplementary materials, or conduct an interview with the applicant;

• Consular officers will decide whether to issue a visa, as well as the validity period, number of entries, and duration of stay based on the applicant's specific circumstances.
