Visa for Hong Kong SAR of China

I. Canadian citizens visiting Hong Kong for short-term stays, tourism, or sightseeing are exempt from visas and may stay for up to 90 days.

II. Whether third-country nationals require a visa to enter Hong Kong can be checked on the website of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Immigration Department:

III. Foreign nationals intending to stay in Hong Kong beyond the visa-free period or for purposes such as employment, residence, study, or training must obtain the appropriate visa in advance.

Note: Effective January 17, 2025, the HKSAR Immigration Department has adjusted the application process for visas related to employment, talent, investment, training, working holidays, dependents, etc. Applicants must submit their entry or extension of stay applications electronically. The Hong Kong Immigration Department no longer accepts in-person or mailed applications, and our Consulate will no longer accept such applications on their behalf.

V. How to Apply for a Hong Kong Visa
i. Where to Apply
Email your application to the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Calgary. Calgarycenter@visaforchina.org. We will email you, when you can submit your document to our center.
ii. Required Documents
Passport: Original passport with at least one blank visa page and a photocopy of the profile page. The passport must be valid for at least one month beyond the intended stay in Hong Kong.
Completed Hong Kong Visa Application Form: Fill out the form truthfully, completely, and accurately. See https://www.immd.gov.hk/hks/forms/hk-visas.html
One recent color passport-sized photo (2-inch, front view, no headwear).

iii. Processing Time and Fees
Applications processed in Calgary:
Regular: 4 working days, CAD 40.
Express: 3 working days, additional CAD 35 expedited fee.
Urgent : 2 working days, additional CAD 50 rush fee.
Applications requiring approval from the HKSAR Immigration Department: In addition to the visa fee, a CAD 25 liaison fee per application will be charged upon submission.
Service fee to the Chinese Visa Application Service Center:
Please note that the Chinese Visa Application Service Center charges a service fee. For specific rates, refer to the Visa Center’s website.
iv. Payment Method
Payment is made when submitting documents at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center. Only DEBIT cards are accepted (credit cards are not).
